Our dogs deserved better food
The Chef’s Dog started with a simple belief: our dogs deserved better food.
Like most dog owners, we wanted to do everything we could to help our dogs live long, healthy, happy lives. Over the years, we watched too many friends and family members lose dogs to serious illnesses, and it made us think more carefully about what we were putting in our own dogs’ bowls every day.
We wanted real food. Clean ingredients. Food we could actually recognize.
When fresh dog food started becoming more available, we tried it with our own dogs, and they loved it. But because we already had years of experience preparing high-quality meals for people, we kept coming back to the same thought:
We can do this better.
So we started making food the way we believed it should be made: in small batches, with high-quality ingredients, no unnecessary shortcuts, and the same level of care we would expect from food prepared for our own family.
But we also knew that great ingredients weren’t enough. A dog’s diet needs to be nutritionally complete and properly formulated. We worked with James Pendergast at NetPetNutrition to develop complete and balanced recipes for adult dogs, and from the beginning our direction was simple: make the best food we possibly can and cut no corners.
That philosophy still drives The Chef’s Dog today.
We want every customer to feel confident that they are doing something genuinely good for a member of their family. We want them to know where their dog’s food comes from, understand what is in it, and trust the people making it.
Our goal is to build The Chef’s Dog into a trusted household name, beginning here in Southern California: one dog, one family, and one bowl at a time.
